Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Specialist

Dr-Jagdev-Signh-photo Dr. Jagdev Singh, also known as Dr. Dev, is a Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Specialist at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. He cares for babies, children and teenagers with breathing and sleep problems.Dr. Dev sees children with respiratory concerns such as asthma, wheeze, long-lasting cough, repeated chest infections, noisy breathing and complex lung disease.

Dr. Dev also has a strong interest in children’s sleep medicine. He sees children with snoring, obstructive sleep apnoea, restless sleep, daytime tiredness, poor concentration and other sleep concerns. He has a special interest in infant sleep studies and has published research in this area. He also established a paediatric sleep laboratory at Westmead Private Hospital, helping more children access high-quality sleep testing. He works closely with families and GPs to understand what is happening, explain things clearly, and develop a practical care plan for each child.

Dr. Dev is also the Medical Lead of virtualKIDS at the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network. In this role, he leads a large statewide service that supports children and families across New South Wales. His work helps children receive the right care at the right time, including for families living far from specialist hospitals.

Dr. Dev is at the forefront of paediatric respiratory research and service development in paediatric healthcare. He completed his PhD at the University of Sydney, focusing on phage therapy for children with difficult-to-treat lung infections. This work included setting up the world’s first clinical trial of its kind and helping treat difficult infections. His research interests include respiratory infections, cystic fibrosis, phage therapy, asthma, sleep medicine and better ways to deliver care for children.

His research and publications have been referenced in position statements and guidelines from major respiratory and sleep organisations in the United States and Europe. His work has also been featured in national news outlets, including The Project.

Dr. Dev is a Senior Clinical Lecturer with the University of Sydney and is passionate about teaching future paediatricians. He teaches respiratory and sleep medicine to doctors, trainees, and health professionals, including through a regular national examination-teaching programme for future paediatricians across Australia and New Zealand. His work in teaching has been recognised through teaching awards.

Dr. Dev is proud and grateful to be recognised as a Churchill Fellow. The Churchill Fellowship is a prestigious national award that allows Australians to travel overseas, learn from world experts and bring that knowledge back to help Australia. Only a small number of Fellowships are awarded each year, with over 4,800 Australians supported since the Trust was established.

Dr. Dev also works closely with non-government organisations and foundations to support respiratory health. He regularly takes part as a panellist at fundraising events, forums and community discussions, helping raise awareness, support patient and family education, and raise funds for research and service improvement.

At the heart of Dr. Dev’s work is a simple goal: to help children breathe better, sleep better and thrive.
